Top 3 LGBTQIA+ Processional Types

Happy Pride Month! In honor of my many friends and family in the LGBTQIA+ community, I wanted to write this article.

Here’s the thing about LGBTQIA+ Ceremonies: you have the liberty to do whatever you want. Literally limitless (this is true for cis-heterosexual marriages too). It could be getting everyone tequila to take a shot all at the same time after “I do,” or it could be having people dance while you walk in. Whatever your vision, it’s ultimately up to you what your vibe is and what you’re both comfortable with.

It reminded me of this quote from The Gay Agenda Collective’s Zabrina in an interview with Jamie Wolfer:

“I think that weddings in general are like snowflakes, every wedding will look different and be very reflective of you, as the people who are getting married. And I think what’s so beautiful about how we are headed as an industry is that we are giving couples so much more autonomy to make their own choices for their wedding day.”

That said, don’t feel limited by this list!

  1.  Have the partners “bookend” the processional: One partner starts the processional, and one finishes the processional. Can go up with one or both parents, or other loved one.

    • Although this is like the traditional cis-heterosexual ceremony, don’t let that stop you: this method builds up suspense for each soon-to-be spouse.

  2. Both partners walk up the aisle, either together or with the officiant. I recommend doing a First Look for this one so that you capture that precious first moment.

  3. Consider having 2-3 aisles instead of 1. Maybe the left and right aisles are for the lovebirds, while the center aisle is for the Wedding Party // Honor Squad // Celebration Crew. The lovebirds can walk in at the same time.

If you have another idea or love one of these, leave a comment below! I’d love to hear new ideas.

For some really good information, I recommend checking out content from The Gay Agenda Collective  www.thegayagenda.co.
