Winter Wedding at Union Grove Barn in Chapel Hill, NC
I want to start with just WOW! McKenzie and Landon’s story truly touched all of our hearts at K.S. Otter Events, which is why we’re so excited to highlight their beautiful winter wedding at Union Grove Farm in Chapel Hill. This stunning barn wedding venue in North Carolina created the perfect cozy and romantic setting for their celebration.

Ethereal, peaceful, and beautiful are just a few words I can use to describe their wedding venue. Nestled in a quiet part of town, Union Grove Barn is filled with perfect backdrops for wedding portraits. Whether it’s the dreamy pond, the pier leading to a gazebo, the oak barn doors, or the bridge tucked among greenery and glowing lights, every corner of the property feels magical.
The interior of the barn is just as stunning. High ceilings are adorned with fairy lights and a chandelier, creating a warm and romantic atmosphere. With ample space to host up to 200 guests, it’s an ideal venue for weddings in any season. But this winter wedding at Union Grove Barn left me especially speechless and full of butterflies.
Sweet Start to the Day
McKenzie and Landon’s day started in their respective getting-ready suites, surrounded by their closest friends and family. It was the perfect beginning to the day, stress-free, joyful, and full of wholesome moments.
While McKenzie spent the morning getting ready with her favorite people, Landon and his crew relaxed by the pier, fishing and enjoying a cold beer. Honestly, nothing feels more chill and relaxing than that.
First-Look and Private Vows
The bride wanted to share several special first look moments, with her bridal party, her father, and of course Landon. She wanted to capture these memories forever. Looking back on that day, I can already see how cherished those moments will be even 80 years from now.
Before the ceremony, the couple exchanged private vows surrounded by trees, enjoying a quiet moment together before the big event. Their words came straight from the heart as they shared memories of their life together and their hopes for the future. As a wedding planner, getting to witness moments filled with that much love and sincerity is exactly why we love what we do.
Ceremony at Union Grove Barn
Guests arrived for the ceremony and enjoyed the venue’s majestic grounds and breathtaking views. As everyone took their seats and waited for the ceremony to begin, the couple prepared to step into a brand-new chapter of their lives.
To give the couple more time to connect with their guests and keep the day feeling relaxed, we allowed time for the cocktail hour to flow naturally for as long as they needed. Guests enjoyed an incredible charcuterie spread that looked so delicious I had to stop myself from sneaking a bite more than once.
Reception
After family photos, fun drinks, and delicious appetizers, the reception began with the couple’s first dance. Their song, “You’re Still the One” by Teddy Swims, was so romantic that there wasn’t a single person in the room who wasn’t smiling from ear to ear.
Dinner followed with an amazing spread of BBQ, mac and cheese, and cornbread catered by City BBQ. The food was so good that guests kept going back for seconds. During dinner, the couple’s closest friends and family shared heartfelt toasts that left barely a dry eye in the room. Their words of love, appreciation, and friendship truly showed the depth of connection surrounding this couple.
After cutting the cake and opening their cozy hot drinks bar, an essential for a winter wedding, everyone headed to the dance floor.
The rest of the night was filled with laughter, breakdancing, and never-ending good memories shared among friends.
Wedding Portraits
A special shoutout to Blythe, their photographer, who worked incredibly hard to capture some truly epic shots of the wedding and our couple. Especially the next photos, which look like they came straight out of an Outlander episode, such a dreamy and romantic use of nature and soft lighting.
