As a North Carolina wedding planner based in the Piedmont Triad, I want my couples to feel confident in the choices they make—from flowers to favors, and yes, to what their closest friends wear on the big day. Couples ask me all the time: Is Birdy Grey legit? I recently did an honest review of Azazie, and it resonated with so many bridesmaids and brides. Now it’s time to talk about another major player: Birdy Grey.
For this review, I tried two bridesmaid dresses and one pajama set, all in size XL:
And yes, I even included some unfiltered photos (wrinkles and all) to give you the real experience. I show you exactly how the dresses and PJs came out of the bag.
The very first thing I noticed? Color accuracy. Both dresses were true to what was pictured online. That’s not always the case in wedding fashion, so points for Birdy Grey here. The fabrics looked nice right out of the bag, with only some minor, easily steamable wrinkles, though they arrived in single-use plastic packaging, which felt less aligned with their stated sustainability commitments. As a sustainable wedding planner in NC, this is something I take special note of.
The PJ’s were the biggest hit for me. Bamboo fabric (93% bamboo, 7% spandex) feels buttery-soft and breathable, and even with personalization stitched in, the inside was smooth enough for me to sleep comfortably in (a small miracle for someone who’s very sensitive to textures).
Both bridesmaid dresses were comfortable and -gasp- came with pockets! This is definitely a win in my book.

The Jackson is a bold, vibrant pink with a flattering V-neckline. It runs long—at 5’7”, I would have needed either a small heel or a hem. That’s something to budget for if you’re shorter than me, since tailoring can run $100–$150 or more, depending on where you live. If you’re taller than me, then this dress will be perfect for you!
It’s on the slightly more formal side, which means it can double as a gown for other weddings in the future. A deep-V bra is essential (you can see I don’t have one of those on hand, unfortunately), but the cut is lovely and surprisingly comfortable for the price point. I felt genuinely comfortable and overall happy with how it fit me.

This floral chiffon dress was my favorite. The print makes it feel versatile: I could see it at a wedding, but also for a rehearsal dinner or even a night out post-wedding. The empire waistline is forgiving and would likely also work well for any ladies who may need maternity bridesmaid dresses.
It’s also a flattering pick for plus-size figures or anyone with a baby bump, thanks to its flow and length. Like the Jackson, it was long on me, but that’s better than too short.
Personally, I loved this one more even though I think the Jackson dress was a better overall fit. I couldn’t really tell you why I feel that way, it was just a feeling I had!
I’m including one silly photo of me adjusting my phone on the tripod- by this point, it was getting quite sunny and bright outside! So I’m a little squinty here. What can I say? I like to have a little fun even if my eyes are suffering from the sun…

If you’re shopping for gifts for your wedding party, these PJ’s are a win. They’re made from 93% bamboo (a far more sustainable fabric than polyester), and they feel luxe while still being affordable.
A few caveats: lighter shades like pink or white can be a bit see-through, and they don’t hide much if you get chilly (IYKYK), so plan for a bra or nipple covers if modesty is important. I also learned the hard way that if you machine-dry them, they’ll ruffle/bunch. Hang dry only!
That said, they’re soft enough that I’ve been wearing Birdy Grey pajamas since my own wedding a couple summers ago, and the comfort factor is still unmatched. After a year and a half of consistent wear, they have ruffled and bunched in funky ways (oops! I should have read the tag: my humanity humbles me!), but they have not pilled. Pilling is one of those things that irritates me the most with fast fashion and soft fabrics, so I have a feeling these would have lasted far longer had I taken a hot minute and actually read the darned tag.

I actually bought one of the Birdy Grey robes for my wedding day a while back, and I absolutely love it! I still wear it to this day, and it has held up nice. I’d definitely recommend a Birdy Grey Robe for any bride-to-be who wants a more affordable option.
Here’s where things get nuanced. As a sustainable wedding planner in NC, this is something I want to know more about, so that I can help my couples make informed decisions.
As a sustainable wedding planner, I’d love to see Birdy Grey capture more sustainable fabrics, like bamboo and other plant-based fibers like those described here.

Birdy Grey deserves credit for inclusivity. Sizes run from XS to 3X, and their marketing features real diversity—different body types, queer couples, and mixed-gender wedding parties. They openly celebrate love in all its forms, and their LGBTQ+ inclusive blog series encourages couples to embrace nontraditional choices.
As an LGBT wedding planner, I especially appreciate their stance on gender-neutral wedding parties and their blog content encouraging couples to scrap traditions that don’t fit. It makes recommending them easier when I know my couples will feel seen and affirmed.

So, is Birdy Grey legit? Yes.
The dresses are flattering, affordable, and versatile enough to rewear if you pick the right style. They’re not perfect on sustainability (polyester is polyester), but their bamboo PJ’s are a strong step in the right direction. And inclusivity-wise, they’re ahead of many competitors.
For couples working with me at K.S.Otter Events, I even offer a Birdy Grey discount code for your wedding party once you book: because saving you green while keeping it green is what we do best.
